 What Does CAASD Do? Minimize

CAASD volunteers are active in the aviation community seeking to build support for the two airports owned and operated by the City of San Diego.

Civil lawsuit against Sunroad Enterprises

CAASD was involuntarily joined in the civil litigation as an indispensible real party in interest seeking to resolve the hazard to air navigation caused by the 12-story Sunroad Centrum 12 office building.  CAASD legal counsel Gerald Blank and Ron Cozard join with counsel from the City of San Diego, Caltrans Division of Aeronautics and AOPA.  For more information, contact Gerald Blank at 619-238-1111.  To contribute a donation towards the legal expenses, use the Join CAASD link and provide an on-line donation.

Airport Observation Areas

Inspired by the movie One-Six Right that features the airport observation area at Van Nuys Airport, CAASD has solicited donations of landscaping and facilities to construct similar areas at Brown Field and Montgomery Field.  For more information, contact Gerald Blank at 619-238-1111.

Brown Field RFP for Developing a new FBO

We all support developing the potential of Brown Field as a future community-based general aviation airport.  However, the City of San Diego has decided to develop first and plan later.  CAASD and EAA Chapter 14 both seek to provide users of Brown Field a voice in the deliberations.  For more information, contact Larry Rothrock at "rothrock at znet.com"

Airport Enterprise Fund Watchdog

CAASD watches how the City generates and spends the money from our airports.  For years, the Airport Enterprise Fund grew from a $1,000,000-plus annual surplus.  Several years ago, two lawsuits were settled for over $4,000,000 from the fund.  Since 2003, the City has failed to produce an audit so we really don't know how much money there is.  However, CAASD keeps an eye on things.  For more information, contact Rick Beach at "rick.beach at amazingpossibilities.org"

Airport Land Use Technical Advisory Group (ATAG)

Future development around airports will be governed by policies adopted from Airport Land Use Compatibility Plans (ALUCP).  The San Diego Airport Land Use Commission embarked on a novel consensus-building stakeholder group called ATAG.  CAASD President Rick Beach has stuck it out since January 2006 for the almost two years it will take to advocate for protections of air transportation uses at our airports.  For more information, contact Rick Beach at "rick.beach at amazingpossibilities.org"
