 Noise Abatement Procedures Minimize

Montgomery Field has a formal noise monitoring program but no mandatory procedures. Daytime noise levels are 88 dB from 0630 to 2330 local and night time noise limits are 70 dB from 2230 to 0630 local. Note: the tower opens at 0600 before the daytime noise level become effective at 0630.

Noise sensitive areas surround the airport, especially the Royal Highlands neighborhood that is directly underneath the centerline of runway 28L, as well as Sierra Mesa to the south of the airport, and Tierrasanta underneath the extended downwind for runway 28R as well as the straight-in approach for runway 28R

VFR Arrival Procedures to KMYF Minimize

Check ATIS on 126.90 and call Montgomery Tower on 119.20.

From the north along coast

Common reporting points on sectional are Del Mar race track (VPSRT), Torrey Pines golf courses (VPSTP) and Mount Soledad (VPSMS). Expect left traffic runway 28L. Note: avoid a zero degree entry to downwind that conflicts with departing traffic; instead fly farther south and enter pattern on 45 to runway 28L.

From the north inland

If Miramar NAS is active, expect to divert east below Class B airspace towards Gillespie (KSEE) and then to Lake Murray; expect straight-in runway 28R or 28L.

Miramar Transition

If Miramar NAS is closed or authorized by SoCal Approach, expect to cross Miramar midfield at 2600 feet until highway 52, then cross KMYF and descend to left downwind runway 28L.

From the east and southeast

Common reporting points are Mt Helix and Lake Murray; expect straight in runway 28R or 28L.

From the south

Use VFR corridor at 4500 feet over KSAN then descend and expect left traffic runway 28R; or take a low-level sightseeing tour along the coast.

Coronado / North Island / Point Loma / Ocean Beach transition

This is a great sightseeing route from the south along the ocean. From Imperial Beach Pier descend and fly low along the Silver Strand State Beach towards Coronado. Contact North Island tower on 135.1 and request a low-level transition off-shore to Point Loma. Expect "800 feet to Point Loma (VPSPL)." After turning northbound at Point Loma, contact KSAN Lindberg tower on 118.3 about two miles before Ocean Beach Pier. Expect "500 feet to Crystal Pier (VPSCP)," and report crossing Crystal Pier to Lindberg tower. After that, you can either proceed directly to Montgomery Field by climbing and entering the 45 to left downwind runway 28L, or continue low along the coast past La Jolla Shores, the Childrens Pool, La Jolla Cove (but avoid the marine sanctuary by flying directly to Scripps Pier), Scripps Institute of Oceanography and the Birch Aqaurium, the Glider Port at Torrey Pines (watch to hang gliders and parasails) and Torrey Pines Golf Courses. . . . more as we get better organized . . .
